The Science Center is stroller friendly, except for the IMAX theater, but there is convenient stroller parking just outside of it. There is also a free coat room with cubbies, so you don’t have to lug everything around with you.
When you first enter the science center, you will see the Dinosaur area. Here you can pretend that you are a paleontologist and uncover fossils, learn all about dinosaurs and see 2 of the largest re-created dinosaurs in the US. My daughter and her friends were amazed at the size of the dinosaur statue.
There is an entire section devoted to the Maryland crab, of course. After this area, we were very tempted to dine at one of the Inner-Harbor restaurants for the fresh and delicious crab-cakes!
For the children under 8 years old, there is a “Kids Room” which features a huge water table, a submarine with all sorts of activities underneath and on the top of it. There are tons of buttons to push, knobs to turn, building activities, engineering activities, construction, experimentation, and so much more! Children can wear smocks to protect their clothes from splashing water, but depending on how overzealous they are, they may still get a bit wet.
There is also a separate “Infant Room” for the children under 24 months. This room has soft blocks, mirrors, a water bed that has an under the sea theme, and toys. My 20 month old son got a kick out of all he could touch and play with in this room.
Next to the kids room is a room called “the shed” where you will find hand and power tools, workbenches, craft supplies and a building challenge.
Some other areas of the Science Center that we didn’t even get to explore is the IMAX theater, planetarium, all about “your body”, Life Beyond Earth, and Science on a Sphere.
Overall, I think the Science Center is a great day trip for the whole family. There is a ton to do there and so much to learn, explore, and play with! Stay updated on their current events and themes by becoming a Facebook fan!
