buddingSTEM was created when two Seattle moms couldn’t find the things their girls loved on clothes made for girls. When Jennifer’s daughter was 4, she wanted to be an astronaut for Halloween — until a catalogue of kids’ costumes came in the mail. She took one look and said, “I can’t be an astronaut. That costume is for boys.” A couple months later, Malorie’s 2-year-old daughter wanted train underpants — but those were only found in the boys section.
It made us think:
We tell our girls they can do anything. Be anything. So, why is it so hard to find clothes for young girls who aspire to explore the universe or dig for dinosaurs? Or for girls who just like trains?
Join the movement to encourage girls’ early interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and exploration. Let’s validate our girls’ interests in these subjects from an early age, and celebrate their opportunity to grow up and make a difference in STEM fields where women are underrepresented today.
buddingSTEM launched with a successful Kickstarter campaign in Spring 2015 — blowing past their $45,000 goal to raise $70,000. buddingSTEM co-founders Jennifer Muhm and Malorie Catchpole received GeekWire’s Geek of the Year award in May 2015 for their work on buddingSTEM.
Aside from the 15% discount buddingSTEM is offering our readers (use code HOLIDAY15) they are giving away one Glow in the Dark Long Sleeve T-Shirt in Navy! Enter using the Rafflecopter link below.
My daughter received a dress sample. This is my child who opens her blinds every night after we tuck her into bed so she can say “good night” to the moon. This dress makes her SO happy! It makes me happy too! Beside the awesome message we are sending these girls by supporting buddingSTEM, the fabric is a 95/5 blend because, as moms, we know a little stretch helps with active kiddos. Also, rather than a sewn in irritating tag, they use heat press labels printed right onto the fabric!
Disclaimer: In exchange for this post, buddingSTEM has offered to give our readers a discount as well as do a giveaway. They also sent my daughter a dress for us to review. All opinons are my own. I HEART this company!
