After a long career as a professional dancer, Sam Sinns has moved his family to Delaware County to open a dance studio. The studio has a one-word name: Twirl, and is located in the Newtown Square Shopping Center at 3544 West Chester Pike (the entrance is around the back of the center on Clover Lane).
Sam brings to the area over twenty years of professional dance experience, the majority of which has been spent working for The Walt Disney Company. The Orlando native has performed in shows at Tokyo Disneyland, toured with the Broadway production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and appeared in many shows at Walt Disney World including The Diamond Horseshoe Jamboree, Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage, and Hoop Dee Doo Revue. In order to make the move to Delaware County, Sinns left his most recent job at Disney as a performer in Finding Nemo the Musical at Disney’s Animal Kingdom where he also served as the dance captain for the show.
However, Sam’s dance credits extend beyond his jobs for Disney. He also spent time living in New York City where he danced at Radio City Music Hall in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, appeared in the national tour of West Side Story, and performed in many regional theatre productions around the U.S.
Along with performing, Sam has extensive teaching experience. While appearing in shows at Disney, he worked part-time for Disney Performing Arts as a teaching artist for Disney Dancin’ workshops and was a resident director for their musical theatre workshops, Disney’s Broadway Magic. He also toured the country as a teacher for Dance Revolution Dance Conventions and has taught master classes all over the nation.
Sam is excited to bring his extensive stage experience to dance students in Delaware County. “I’ve had a long career as a professional dancer. I’ve been to a lot of auditions and performed in a lot of shows. At this point in my life I have a lot of knowledge about dance and show business, and I can’t wait to open the studio and train up the next generation of dancers.” When asked if his time at Disney will affect how he runs his business Sam, responds with at a resounding, “Yes! Disney will be a part of of every aspect of my dance studio. From attention to detail, to customer service, to how I teach the kids about performing, everything I do at the studio will be inspired or influenced by Disney in one way or another.”
Sam recently moved to the area with his wife Amy and eleven-year-old daughter Emma. He says, “The most common question I’ve been asked is, ‘Why are you opening a studio in Pennsylvania?’ and the short answer is simply because it was time for a change and we think Delaware County is a beautiful place to live. And being close to Philadelphia and New York City is a huge plus.”
Twirl is offering free registration and 50% off the first month’s tuition for students who register by August 27. See the Twirl website for details. You can learn more about Twirl, meet Sam and his family, and register online at www.twirlperformingarts.com.
