With so many meal recipe/ingredient delivery services out there, it’s important to know what they each offer that makes them unique. With Plated., you are guaranteed pork and poultry that is responsibly raised without antibiotics, partnerships with sustainable and trustworthy fisheries, beef with no added hormones, and organic produce whenever possible. Sounds great, right? What I like about them, is they also provide produce that is beyond what you can find in most grocery stores. As I mentioned in a previous post, I love to cook, but get really intimidated by items that I’m not sure how to prep.
My family received 2 meals from their 3-serving meals, since they recommend these for families. And I’d agree, there was definitely enough for 2 adults and 4 picky children.
The Plated. recipe cards are very colorful and easy to follow. The front has a picture of what the finished meal looks like, along with the title, and a brief description. You’ll also find the timing predicted to cook, servings, and calories per serving. On the back you will see the ingredients, including the few items you’ll need from your own pantry, and my favorite part… recipe tips! I learned a lot from these tips, like the best way to handle gentle burrata cheese. Then there are step-by-step numbers instructions along with coordinating images. Like most things, you don’t need the pictures to help you cook these meals, but they look nice!
The first meal we made was Long Life Noodles with Mushrooms and Soy Sesame Sauce. The instruction card says they are “thought to bring good luck for a long life”. And that’s how we enticed our children to eat them! With spinach, wild mushroom mix, and noodles, it was a healthy meal! I only needed to go into my pantry for canola oil, water, salt and pepper. I love how the list gives me what size pots/pans I’ll be needing as well. I found Plated. very good at communicating everything I may need to know when preparing their meal. The Recipe Tips were also helpful! Did you know that if mushrooms are too wet they won’t brown!?!?!? I did not!
The second meal we made was Truffle Pizza with Burrata, Honey, and Pistachios. Oh my deliciousness! This was seriously good. We didn’t care as much for the lemony dressing on the side salad, but still found it to be a great compliment to the pizza. This dough was delicious and easy to roll out. I often times buy pizza dough from our supermarket, and I didn’t realize until reading this instruction card that letting the dough temper at room temperature for 5 minutes will help it roll out easier. Loved learning so many new things while cooking this meal! I also didn’t know the best way to take care of burrata cheese, so enjoyed working with that for the first time. We were able to make 3 small pies out of the dough which I did 2 as the recipe called for, and 1 with marinara sauce and then the cheese from the Plated. recipe. My kids tried both, and they all preferred red sauce over truffle oil… they have no class, clearly. 🙂 My husband and I, however, agreed this is a must-do-again recipe!
I would gladly order Plated. meals again. Once I realized that I have to add time to the predicted timings on the recipe cards, I embraced the task and relished in the yumminess of the restaurant-style meal I was able to serve my family!
