Backpacks Filled With School Supplies
Scotties® facial tissues by Royale® will be surprising the students of Rowan Elementary School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with much-needed school supplies.
By partnering with the Kids In Need Foundation (KINF) Scotties wants to help make each day great for students and urges them that no matter their circumstances, they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
“We are so delighted to be recipients of this generous donation from the people at Scotties facial tissues,” said Sharen Hanssens-Ford, Principal. “It’s been so hard to keep it a secret from the students but we are looking forward to seeing the joy on their faces when they see the big reveal.”
Rowan Elementary School consists of approximately 500 students, many of whom have inadequate access to school supplies. The surprise will kick off with the backpack reveal in the morning followed by entertainment from Rapping About Prevention, a Philadelphia-based hip-hop group that brings positive messages to school children everywhere.
“Our research shows that when students have access to the tools they need to learn, their classroom participation increases, and their interest in learning increases,” said Dave Smith, executive director, The Kids In Need Foundation. “We are thankful for the generous donation from Scotties, because we know many more students will have the confidence that comes from having the supplies they need to succeed.”
Scotties is donating $25,000 nationwide to provide backpacks filled with pens, pencils, crayons, notebooks, and of course, boxes of Scotties facial tissues. The Kids In Need Foundation provides school supplies to kids who need them most, nationwide. In 2016 alone, KINF supported more than 5.4 million students with supplies.
“Pencils, notebooks, and backpacks mean more to a child in need than you’d imagine,” said Scotties marketing director, John Robertson. “Being prepared for school gives a child confidence that spills over into their everyday life, and fosters much more than just a productive day of learning.”
To help make this donation happen, Scotties is putting the call out to all parents to support them in their mission. As part of their 2017 Ready, Set, School! campaign (www.readysetschoolsweeps.com), Scotties will donate a backpack for each video created and shared under the hashtag #ReadySetSchool.
Scotties would like to see video responses from kids to the following question: “If you could put one thing in a backpack and then give it to a kid who needed help getting through the school day, what would that one thing be and why?” Upload those videos that are 45 seconds or less to social media (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) and share them using the hashtag #ReadySetSchool. Scotties will donate one backpack full of school supplies for every video created. To see examples of videos, click here.
