SWARTHMORE, PA – Looking for a fun indoor family event for all ages on a cold winter’s day? Then check out “Putt Putt Palooza: Putting Zoo at CADES”, the 3rd annual Putt Putt Palooza fundraiser featuring 18 unique mini golf holes created by students, families, and business in the area. Proceeds will go towards adaptive communication technology to help non-verbal physically and intellectually disabled students who attend CADES, a non-profit serving the disabled community for more than 65 years.
“Putting Zoo at CADES” will be held on Sunday, Jan. 28th from 11 am to 4 pm at CADES, 401 Rutgers Ave, in Swarthmore. The cost is $5 per person for nine holes. The event also features raffles, music, and food. Players can reserve a tee time in advance online at CADES.org to avoid waiting in line or can walk in.
“Putt Putt is just plain fun and really brings the community together,” said Julia Alleman, director of CADES. “I’m amazed at the creativity that goes into making the golf holes. This year, we are happy to announce that we will have two adaptive holes created by CADES therapists, offering people an experience of what it would be like to play with a disability.”
The course is created by students from area high schools, colleges, businesses, and families, who compete for cash prizes and a golden putter trophy. Among those making holes are high school students from Strath Haven, Ridley, Springfield, Garnett Valley, and Sun Valley, Swarthmore College, Linn Architects, Sun East Federal Credit Union, and area families.
“Zoo Keeper Super Sponsors” of the event are: Swarthmore Pediatrics & Family Practice, M &T Bank, and The Law Offices of Joseph Lesniak. “Main Event Sponsors” are McCabe & Son Roofing, Swarthmore Recreation Association, Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, David Hoffman & Associates, Kathy Hughes, realtor with Berkshire Hathaway/Fox Roach, Wallingford Station Family Dental, Forwood & Christie Orthodontics, The Scanlan Family, Rosalie Spelman, Esq., and W.S. Cumby.
Putt Putt Palooza was created three years ago as a service project by the 8th grade class at Strath Haven Middle School. The event has grown each year and has raised over $18,000 for CADES, drawing more than 600 participants last year.
