What’s new at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm in Ronk, PA???? The list is long! Because truly, they are ALWAYS adding new adventures each year! This year my children were super excited for this “old mama” because they had sunflower picking, while available! Sunflowers are my favorite flowers and combined with my favorite place, double-win! There was also a new set of restrooms, super nice. AND, a very cool climbing area which was tons of fun for us all- “the ground is lava” lasted usat least 30 minutes! I lost. Because again, I’m “old”. (Can you tell I have a 10 year old in the house?)
My favorite thing about Cherry Crest has always been the LACK of technology. It’s just a pure, old fashioned, family fun sort of establishment. This year they added in an interactive game with a downloadable app (search Farm Scavenger Hunt in your app store and you can download the Farm Games free. Then select PA and Cherry Crest as the farm associated with your game.). At first, I had a negative thought about it. I don’t want to bust my phone out at my favorite place. Or have my children look at my screen. But we decided to play when we went last week. And you know what…. it was fun! Simply find a big red sign with the number you are looking for, then scan that number in the app using your phone’s camera. Then you’re actively inside the scavenger hunt! There are facts about animals, each number gives a HINT for the where it can be found. And the children learned a fact about a farm animal when we scanned the number. They really had fun doing this! The only snafu we found was that you had to go in numerical order, and if you do Cherry Crest like we do, we go where the wind blows us! So we had to quit after #3. But we’re heading there again this weekend and will play again! (I learned that this is still a work in progress so the chronological order requirement may change!)
Aside from the new agri-fun, we spent no less than 75 minutes in Sproutsville. I bring a book, or a friend, always vote for a mommy-friend, and just enjoy the shade, Strasburg Railroad train passing by, children playing, and fresh air. And of course, multiple trips on the slide. I JUST LOVE IT!
Plan your visit by going to their website. Purchasing tickets online will save you a few dollars versus at the gate. Enjoy your time!
